According to Trend Micro, a leader in cybersecurity globally, as companies battle to characterize and defend an increasing attack surface, 32% of worldwide enterprises have had customer records hacked more than once in the last 12 months.
The information was obtained from the Ponemon Institute’s semi-annual Trend Micro Cyber Risk Index (CRI) report, which was based on interviews with more than 4,100 businesses in North America, Europe, Latin America, and Asia-Pacific.
Vijendra Katiyar, Country Manager at Trend Micro, commented on this disturbing report. “You can’t protect what you can’t see. But with hybrid working ushering in a new era of complex, distributed IT environments, many organizations are finding it difficult to eradicate growing security coverage and visibility gaps. To avoid the attack surface spiraling out of control, they need to combine asset discovery and monitoring with threat detection and response on a single platform.”
The CRI determines the difference between organizational readiness and the likelihood of an assault, with a score of -10 denoting the greatest danger. The worldwide CRI index increased from 0.04 in the second half of 2021 to 0.15 in the first half of 2022, signaling a rise in risk over the previous six months. Indian organizations’ organizational readiness was evaluated by 5.46 out of 10 respondents. India’s overall cybersecurity index was 0.09 points.
The number of international organizations experiencing a “successful” cyber-attack rose from 84% to 90% over the same period, another indicator of this trend in the data. Unsurprisingly, from 76% to 85%, more people are anticipated to have their security breached over the following year.
The index report’s list of top preparation concerns includes several connected tools for discovering an attack surface. However, finding the physical location of applications and data assets essential to corporate operations can take a lot of work for security experts.
The discord between CISOs and business executives is the main worry from a business standpoint. Considering the ratings provided by the respondents from India, “My organization’s IT security objectives are aligned with business objectives” barely got a 4.35 out of 10 ratings.
Organizations will significantly lessen their susceptibility to attacks by addressing the shortage of cybersecurity experts and enhancing security processes and technology.
Chairman and founder of the Ponemon Institute, Dr. Larry Ponemon, said, “The CRI continues to provide a fascinating snapshot of how global organizations perceive their security posture and the likelihood of being attacked. The stakes couldn’t be higher in the face of stiff macroeconomic headwinds. Respondents pointed to the high cost of outside expertise, damage to critical infrastructure, and lost productivity as the main negative consequences of a breach.”
